Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina will clash in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2025 on Wednesday, January 22. The American overcame a second-set stumble to beat former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the fourth round.
Keys defeated Ann Li, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, and Danielle Collins in the first three rounds. She has reached her fourth quarterfinal in Melbourne, the most she has at a single Major, and improved her record at the venue to 31-10 with her latest win. She's also on a nine-match winning streak, having won the title in Adelaide to start the new season.
Svitolina overcame a slow start to beat Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She staged a comeback to topple World No. 4 Jasmine Paolini in the third round and beat Caroline Dolehide and Sorana Cirstea in straight sets before that.
Svitolina has reached her third quarterfinal Down Under. An injury forced her to retire in the fourth round here last year, so she has certainly made up for last year's disappointment. Her current record at the Australian Open stands at 29-11.
While Keys has made the semifinals of the season's first Major twice, Svitolina is aiming to make the last four here for the first time. The American leads their head-to-head 3-2 and won their previous encounter at the Adelaide International 2022 in straight sets.
All of their prior matches have been on hardcourts. Three of their previous meetings took place at the Majors, with Svitolina winning two, including one at the Australian Open 2019. Keys' only win at the Grand Slam level came en route to the final of the US Open 2017.
