Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka start their respective Australian Open campaigns against Nicolas Jarry and Sloane Stephens.

 

Defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are both the top seeds in this year’s edition of the Australian Open. The Italian will start his campaign against Nicolas Jarry while the Belarusian will face 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens.

Sinner and Jarry have locked horns twice previously, with their head-to-head currently tied at 1-1. Their last encounter was a thrilling one, which the Italian won 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in Beijing. The winner of the match will face either Taro Daniel or Tristan Schoolkate in the second round.

Sabalenka and Stephens will lock horns for the fifth time, with the Belarusian already having won their four prior meetings. Their last encounter came in the fourth round of the 2023 French Open, with the current World No. 1 winning 7-6(5), 6-4. Whoever out of Sabalenka and Stephens wins, will face either Sonay Kartal or Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the second round of the Australian Open.
